Texas Southern University Career Pathways Center: Recruiting Policies

NACE Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services and Employment Professionals

The Texas Southern University Career Pathways Center is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the preeminent association dedicated to advancing college career services and college talent recruiting programs. NACE provides guiding ethical principles that ensure the recruitment process is fair, equitable, and supports informed and responsible decision-making. As a member of NACE, the Texas Southern University Career Pathways Center adheres to these principles, and we expect employers utilizing our services to follow them as well.

Third-Party Recruiters and Employment Agencies

Campus interviews should be directly scheduled and conducted by representatives employed by the hiring organization — not by third-party agents. If third-party representatives are allowed to participate in interviews, they must disclose the client(s) they represent, the type of position being recruited, and the intended recipient(s) of student credentials. The Texas Southern University Career Pathways Center will verify this information by contacting the named client(s) to ensure compliance with NACE and university policies. We reserve the right to restrict or prohibit third-party recruiting as needed.

Third-party representatives conducting recruitment at Texas Southern University must do so under the name of the hiring organization. Student information may only be used for the stated recruiting purpose with the identified client(s) and must not be sold, shared, or distributed to any other parties. Employment agencies may conduct interviews for their own internal positions only — not for client-contracted placements.

Job Offers

Employers extending offers to Texas Southern University students are encouraged to review the NACE Position Statement on Setting Reasonable Deadlines for Job Offers. We ask that you avoid practices that place undue pressure on students, including short decision timelines or “exploding offers.”

To ensure fairness, we request the following guidelines:

  • Minimum of two (2) weeks for students to consider offers for full-time, co-op, or internship positions.
  • To minimize offer reneges, we encourage leaving offers open until October 15th (Fall) and March 1st (Spring).
  • For offers extended at the conclusion of summer internship programs, we encourage providing students until October 15th to accept.

All offers must be provided in writing (electronic or hard copy). The decision timeline begins on the date of the written offer letter. Please use the employer Handshake account to report job offers.

Reneges

Students who accept an offer acknowledge the expectation that they will discontinue job search activities. If you experience a renege from a Texas Southern University student, please notify the Career Pathways Center. Students who renege may face restrictions in accessing Career Pathways Center services.

We also request that employers refrain from rescinding offers whenever possible. If economic or organizational constraints require changes, please contact us to discuss alternative solutions that minimize adverse impact to students.

Alcohol-Free Policy

The Texas Southern University Career Pathways Center follows NACE guidance requiring all recruiting activities — including presentations, information sessions, and employer-sponsored events — to be alcohol-free.

Non-Discrimination Policy

The Texas Southern University Career Pathways Center is an equal opportunity and affirmative action institution. Employers utilizing the On-Campus Interview Program and job posting services are expected to uphold these same EEO principles.
