Summer Dairy Internship

Natural Prairie Dairy | Hartley, Texas

Natural Prairie Dairy’s Summer Internship Program gives college students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience inside one of the largest family-operated organic dairy farms in the United States.

Our interns work alongside experienced dairy professionals, learn how different departments contribute to the success of the operation, and gain real-world exposure to animal care, dairy management, agriculture, technology, and leadership.

This isn’t a summer spent behind a desk. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved, ask questions, solve problems, and experience what a career in modern dairy agriculture actually looks like.

What You’ll Experience

Depending on your interests and the needs of the operation, your internship may include exposure to areas such as:

  • Milking – Milk quality, equipment, procedures, and dairy data
  • Breeding & Reproduction – Genetics, breeding cycles, and recordkeeping
  • Animal Health – Cattle care, treatments, and herd health practices
  • Maternity – Calving, postpartum care, and calf health
  • Heifer Development – Growth benchmarks, feeding, and youngstock management
  • Feeding & Nutrition – Rations, feed management, nutrition, and equipment
  • Farm Equipment & Maintenance – Equipment operation and maintenance
  • Dairy Operations – Exposure to the people, processes, and systems required to operate a successful dairy

You’ll see firsthand how animal science, technology, data, people, and operational decision-making come together on a modern dairy.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for college students who:

  • Are pursuing a degree in Animal Science, Dairy Science, Agricultural Business, Agricultural Leadership, or another agriculture-related field
  • Have an interest in dairy, livestock, or production agriculture
  • Are eager to learn and aren’t afraid to get their boots dirty
  • Enjoy working with animals and people
  • Demonstrate initiative, dependability, and a strong work ethic
  • Want meaningful, hands-on experience to help shape their future career

Dairy experience is not required. We’re looking for students who are curious, motivated, and ready to learn.

Why Intern With Natural Prairie Dairy?

At Natural Prairie Dairy, healthy cows, great people, and sustainable agriculture are at the heart of what we do. Our farms use modern technology and innovative practices to create efficiencies while providing exceptional care for our animals.

As an intern, you’ll have the opportunity to learn directly from the people doing the work every day and gain experience that goes far beyond the classroom.

You’ll leave the summer with:

  • Real-world agricultural experience
  • A better understanding of large-scale dairy operations
  • Exposure to multiple career paths within the dairy industry
  • Connections with experienced dairy professionals and leaders
  • Practical knowledge you can take back to the classroom and into your future career
